The very first OR Books title is now available…

Coming from OR Books on November 17th 2009: The only truly revealing account of the Palin story to appear this fall.

Sarah Palin has many faces: hockey mom, fundamentalist Christian, sex symbol, Republican ideologue, fashion icon, “maverick” populist. Her multi-dimensional appeal led a desperate John McCain to pick the little-known Alaskan governor as his running mate in the late summer of 2008.

Ever since, Palin has been an American obsession. From her car crash interview with Katie Couric, and her appearance with baby Trig and the “first dude” at the Republican National Convention, to her surprise resignation as governor and rumored presidential ambitions, she continues to command center stage. But who, exactly, is she?

This smart, up-to-the-minute book explores questions such as: What was Palin up to before she exploded on the national scene? What does her rise mean for the Republican Party, and for feminism? Does Palin’s brand of down-home right-wing populism represent a still resilient strain of American politics? And if her pro-war, pro-corporate, anti-choice, anti-environment policies became reality, what sort of world would we be living in? It also includes a selection of classic Palinisms: remember, “only dead fish go with the flow.”

Brought together by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, two senior editors at The Nation magazine, Going Rouge features writers including: Max Blumenthal, Joe Conason, Eve Ensler, Tom Frank, Michelle Goldberg, Jane Hamsher, Christopher Hayes, Jim Hightower, Linda Hirshman, Naomi Klein, Dahlia Lithwick, Jane Mayer, Amanda Marcotte, Shannyn Moore, John Nichols, Rick Perlstein, Katha Pollitt, Robert Reich, Hanna Rosin, Gloria Steinem, Matt Taibbi, Michael Tomasky, Rebecca Traister, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Jessica Valenti, Patricia Williams and JoAnn Wypijewski.

I have a website and it’s online. Now all I have do is add some real content to it. I know you’re supposed to launch these things with something big or exciting or at least substantive, but I’m just glad it exists. Thanks to Oscar Henriquez for designing such a beautiful site. I’ll try to do it justice.
